Calabria

Calabria is the oldest wine country in Italy and, for most of the last century, the least understood. Greek settlers planted Gaglioppo on these hillsides nearly three thousand years ago and it never left. The wines are sun-warmed but never heavy, carrying a savory edge that comes from vines rooted in sand and clay a few kilometers from the Ionian. This is the heart of the Above Wines book — the region we started with and the one we still buy the most from.
