A bad bottle is always put right
If a wine is corked, flawed, or arrives damaged, we replace it or refund it. That is not a negotiation and it does not depend on what you paid. Tell us within [ALDO: claims window for a corked, flawed or damaged bottle — 14 days or 30 days from delivery?] and keep the bottle, the label and whatever is left in it where you can, plus a photograph if it broke in the box — that is how we claim against the carrier or go back to the producer.
Wine that is simply not to your taste
Texas limits what a licensed retailer may take back once alcohol has left the premises, so this is narrower than a clothes shop and we would rather say so plainly than surprise you. [ALDO: do we accept a return of sound, unopened wine at all — (a) no returns of sound wine, (b) in the Irving shop only, with the receipt, or (c) by post as well? And is there a restocking fee, or none?]
Who pays the freight
If the wine was flawed, damaged or not what you ordered, we do. [ALDO: and when the wine is sound and you have simply changed your mind — do we deduct the original shipping and the return freight from the refund, or absorb it?]
How to start one
There is no return button on this site, and that is deliberate: an alcohol return is handled by a person. Call (469) 517-7442 or write to info@abovewines.com with your order number, and we will tell you what to do with the bottles before you send anything back. In the Irving shop, bring the bottles and your receipt to the register.
How the money comes back
To the card, the account or the cash you actually paid with — we cannot refund onto a different card, and a payment split across two methods comes back across the same two. If you paid cash at the shop, the refund is cash at the shop. We record a refund the day we issue it; when it appears on your statement is your bank’s decision, not ours.
What is in the refund
For bottles returned off an order: the price of those bottles and the sales tax on them, at the share of it you actually paid. The shipping you paid to get the order to you is not part of a bottle-by-bottle return — the wine has already travelled. An order we cancel or refund in full comes back in full, shipping included.
Two things a refund also does
Bottles that come back go straight onto the shelf, so anything you return is available to the next customer — which is why we ask you to call before sending wine back. And any loyalty points the order earned come off your balance with it, exactly as they went on.
Cancelling an order before it ships
Call (469) 517-7442 while the order is still with us and we will cancel it and refund it in full. Once the bottles are with the carrier it is a return rather than a cancellation, and the sections above apply.
Club shipments
Skip your next shipment from your account page any time before it goes out — there is no minimum sign-up period and nothing to pay for skipping. A club shipment that arrives damaged is handled exactly like any other order.
Wholesale accounts
Trade returns run through your rep and your account rather than this page. Report a corked or damaged bottle at info@abovewines.com or (469) 517-7442 with the invoice number and we will credit the account. [ALDO: do approved accounts get a breakage or corked-bottle allowance, and is it a credit on the next invoice or a replacement bottle?]
